Advent Small Groups
Like most everything else in 2021, this year’s Advent Small Groups work a bit differently than in past years but allow for more flexibilty to participants during this season of preparation. While attending all four weekly gatherings with one group would be ideal, we know that is not always possible. We’ve designed the gatherings so that you can attend as you are able.
This powerful devotional by best-selling author Walter Brueggemann includes daily reflections on the Scriptures and stories of Advent in order to invite us to see beyond the world’s faux extravagance and realize the true feast laid out before us. Twelve prayers are also included for the twelve days of Christmas.
Walter Brueggemann is William Marcellus McPheeters Professor of Old Testament Emeritus at Columbia Theological Seminary. He is the author of numerous books, including Genesis and First and Second Samuel in the Interpretation series by John Knox Press, An Introduction to the Old Testament: The Canon and Christian Imagination, and Reverberations of Faith: A Theological Handbook of Old Testament Themes.
How Do I Join a Group?
Review the group meeting days and times below and decide which one works best for you. We hope to add another group or two that will meet on a weekday, so check back closer to November 28th to see if there’s a better fit for your schedule.
Advance registration is only required for the one group meeting in a member’s home. For all other groups, just attend during the First Week of Advent which starts Sunday, November 28th.
Can I participate on my own or with my family at home?
Absolutely! Because this is a devotional book, it is a great study to be use as a daily spiritual discipline in Advent on your own or with your family. You can use the 2021 Advent Book Discussion Guide prepared by Pastor Ron.
