Deacon Mary Houck serves as Redeemer’s Children and Family Ministries Director. She joined the staff in 2018.
Deacon Mary felt her call to ministry through experiences working at a Lutheran summer camp in PA, working as a full-time volunteer with Christian Appalachian Project in Eastern KY, as a disaster relief volunteer and later youth director on the MS gulf coast after Katrina, and while working as a global missions volunteer in Slovakia through the ELCA program Young Adults in Global Mission. She is passionate about ministry with our youngest generations and the valuable contributions they can make to the ministry of the church and to our communities, both local and global.
Deacon Mary Houck was ordained in 2012 after graduating with a Masters of the Arts in Ministerial Studies from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg (now part of United Lutheran Seminary), and she served six years in youth and children’s ministry in the Southeastern Synod.
Deacon Mary and her cat Zinnia live in Decatur, GA. She spends her free time reading, cooking, swimming, and visiting with friends and family both near and far.
Deacon Mary’s favorite Scripture passage is Romans 8:38-39.
