Hymns and Congregational Singing in the Lutheran Church
Come to Faith Formation on September 18, 25 & October 2 for a three-part study of the Evangelical Lutheran Worship book! We will sing hymns and also learn about the poets and composers who created them, along with the hymns’ social, historical, and religious contexts. (You can request your favorite hymn to be included in the 2nd and 3rd meetings; we will honor as many requests as possible within the time we have.)
We will look at the historical development of the Mass and how congregational singing increased in importance from the early church to today. We will also examine the contents and use of several indices at the back of the book. Come and join Dr. Mike Bell for this look at the development of Protestant hymnody.
